Ensure that the areas dedicated to agriculture, aquaculture, fishing and forestry are managed sustainably, in particular through the sustainable use of biodiversity, including a substantial increase in the application of environmentally-sound practices with the biodiversity, such as sustainable intensification, agro-ecology, and other innovative approaches that contribute to the resilience and efficiency, and long-term productivity of these production systems and food security, conserving and restoring biodiversity and maintaining the contributions of nature to people, including the functions and services of ecosystems.

Note by the Secretariat:  This guidance material provides an overview of the target by a brief introduction of key terms, highlighting some of the implications for the establishment of national targets and providing key points and questions guidance for their consideration as part of the exercises of establishment of national targets. It also identifies the indicators to monitor the progress and the resources that could help with the establishment and implementation of national goals. This material should be considered a work in progress and will be updated regularly with the contributions of the Parties and organizations associated with the light of the experiences with its use. This information is intended to serve as a resource to the Parties and others might wish to consider as they implement the Global Framework for Biodiversity.
