AICHI targets

The Aichi targets for Biodiversity they are a set of 20 targets adopted in the framework of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Its main purpose is to reduce the loss of biodiversity and to promote its conservation and sustainable use in all levels. These goals are grouped in five strategic objectives that seek to address the underlying causes of biodiversity loss, reduce the direct pressures on ecosystems, improve the state of biodiversity through the protection of species and ecosystems, to ensure benefits for all and to strengthen the mechanisms of implementation. Despite global efforts, many of these goals were not met in their entirety for 2020, what has driven the adoption of new strategies, such as the Global framework for Biodiversity Kunming-Montreal 2022.
