Convention on Biological Diversity

Ratified by 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) was adopted at the Earth Summit in 1992. The goal of the CBD is to achieve the conservation of biodiversity with the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the utilization of the utilization of genetic resources. The Convention recognizes the crucial role that women play in the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity and affirming the need for the full participation of women at all levels of the formulation and implementation of policies aimed at the conservation of biological diversity.
