What is the CHM?

The clearing-house Mechanism of the Convention on Biological Diversity in Honduras -CHM is an initiative created in the country in compliance with the Convention on Biological Diversity, article 18(3), to promote and facilitate technical and scientific cooperation. Offers information on the country in relation to the knowledge, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. This initiative is to promote technical and scientific cooperation at all levels between the contracting parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity and facilitates the access and exchange of information. The main features of it are: to be neutral, cost-effective, efficient, and accessible, in addition to independent and transparent. To achieve these conditions is for the MF meets the following requirements:

Together we can create a lasting impactProtect biodiversity it is a collective commitment to lifeand the future of the planet

Expanding access

Biological diversity is the variety of life on Earth, from the gene bacterial simple to the complex and vast jungle of the Amazon. Human beings are part of this diversity, as well as food, medicines, clothing and other biological resources which sustain us.

Recognizing the importance of biodiversity in our daily life and the pressure that human activities exert on the world we live in, the countries have adopted the Convention on Biological Diversity in 1992, as a framework for action.

From the beginning, it was agreed that the scientific and technological knowledge would play a vital role in the implementation of the Convention. However, the specialized knowledge in information management and technology varies greatly from one country to another. For this reason, the Convention has established a facilitation mechanism to ensure that all countries access to the information and technologies necessary for their work in the area of biodiversity.

We provide the access to the informationwe promote the exchange of knowledgeto strengthen the conservation and our understanding of our biodiversity

Access to the information and knowledge exchange

It is based on the philosophy that a broad participation and easy access should be a top priority. The access to the information and knowledge that are channeled through this mechanism should be simple, and this, in turn, must be able to be shared widely, so as to contribute to the implementation of the Convention.

The mechanism of facilitation is coordinated by the Executive Secretary and supervised and guided by an informal advisory committee, established by the Parties to the Convention. The committee works in a transparent and cooperative to raise awareness of the needs and interests of multiple different communities, countries and regions.

In addition, we are establishing a network of national focal points of the mechanism to address issues relating to the technical and scientific cooperation. The Parties have highlighted the need to strengthen the role of these focal points. Build a network of non-governmental organizations and other institutions specialized in biological diversity would contribute to this goal, as well as set focal points of facilitating national, regional, subregional and thematic.
